Nederpunk at De Piek on 9 October

 

Can De Piek withstand a performance by Dikke Dennis & De Røckers? And if so, will the walls still be standing after the shows by Nederpunk bands Waardeloos and De Stoeptegels? On 9 October, these three bands will be taking to the stage at De Piek in Vlissingen. So fans of punk, Nederrock and live music know exactly where to be.

 

Dikke Dennis & De Røckers are bringing an energetic set full of rousing punk, sleaze rock, hard rock and rock ’n’ roll to De Piek.

Frontman Dennis is one of the last true rock ’n’ roll heroes in the Netherlands. Many of his lyrics are drawn directly from his eventful life. Together with his rock-solid band, he also performs Dutch-language covers of songs by The Dead Boys and The Wipers, among others. Expect humour, chaos and loads of beer.

 

Punk from Boskoop is provided by Waardeloos, once the youngest punk band in the Netherlands. The band was founded in 2003 by the then ten-year-old Micky Breijer and Tommy Kennedy and was joined in 2005 by drummer Vincent van Drunen. Since then, they’ve been playing wherever they can, with crowd favourites such as ‘Ik Haat Het Hier’ and ‘Kaas in de Aanbieding’. Their latest album was described in an online review as ‘delicious rubbish’. That sounds promising enough to give it a listen yourself.

 

De Stoeptegels are the third act on the line-up. This Dutch-language party-(grind)punk band from Eindhoven consists of four lads who, with their eye-catching stage outfits, a party-loving attitude and a touch of alcoholism, guarantee an evening full of beer, mosh pits and heavy music. Disclaimer: not suitable for the faint-hearted.

 

Still haven’t had your fill of punk? On 16 October, Eddie and The Hot Rods will also be playing at De Piek. This British band has been around for over forty years and is regarded as one of the founders of the punk era.
